My Experience With German Shepherd Temperament
Temperament and behavior stem from what the breed was designed for
To understand a breed’s temperament and behavior, ask, “What was he developed to do?” Whichever traits help him accomplish his intended work have likely been “hard-wired” into his genes not perfectly, but generally.
The German Shepherd was developed from various sheepherding dogs. So you would expect sheepherding traits such as athleticism, a compulsion to chase things that move, and swift responsiveness to their human shepherd/master.
German Shepherds were also developed as military messenger and sentry dogs, and as personal protection and police dogs. So expect traits such as aloofness toward strangers and protective/territorial instincts.
The breed also excels at search and rescue, bomb and drug detection, and guiding the blind. Certainly you would expect high intelligence, high self-confidence, trainability, and an ability to focus.
All of those traits are what you get in an ideal German Shepherd. One of the most capable and trainable breeds in all of dogdom, an ideal German Shepherd, when properly raised by a confident owner, can be a magnificent companion. There’s a good reason my first dogs were German Shepherds!
Unfortunately, it can be difficult today to find a German Shepherd with an ideal temperament. Or at least an ideal temperament to be a good family companion.

What Are The Common Diseases Of This Dog

How Much Does It Eat On Average Daily
As their height varies from medium to large, their food requirement changes depending on its size and weight.
For a fully grown mixed breed, at least 5 to 6 cups of nutrient-rich food is crucial. As a puppy, you can serve them with 1 to 1.5 cups of food a day, diving their meal in equal proportions twice or thrice a day.
As they reach their adolescence, their food requirement increases, and they need 2 to 2.5 cups of food at that time. Then as they get their full-grown size, their food requirement rises drastically.
Apart from this, keep their food full of nutrients and protein, helping them grow and attain their maximum size.
A Shared Herding Heritage
Both the Malinois and German Shepherd are members of the Herding Group and can trace their origins to livestock herding dogs. As their names imply, the Belgian Malinois was developed in Belgium and the German Shepherd in Germany.
The Malinois was one of four varieties of Belgian Shepherd Dog in use in the late 1800s. It was first recognized by Professor Adolphe Reul. He characterized the variety as a medium-sized square dog with dark brown eyes and triangular ears. Each of the four types of Belgian Shepherd Dog was named for the area around Brussels where it was developed, with the Malinois hailing from the Malines region.

In terms of what to do during these sessions you can walk, play, run, and hike the list is endless. Because of their high levels of energy they are best suited to a family/individual that leads an active, outdoor lifestyle.
