How Much Is A Baby German Shepherd

Why Do The German Shepherd Cost Vary So Much

Our German Shepherds Cost HOW MUCH Per Month?!

The price of a German Shepherd depends on where you get her breeding and what, if anything, hes trained to do. German Shepherds obtained from animal shelters and rescue organizations are relatively cheap since these organizations charge just enough to cover their costs.

Reputable breeders, when pricing their German Shepherds, must factor in the costs involved with breeding, raising, training, and showing their dogs. A puppy whose parents are proven reveal or hunting champions has the capability to excel in these areas also and will cost more money than a puppy whos the offspring of just average parents.

Mature German Shepherds from the proven show or hunting lines are somewhat more expensive than similarly bred dogs because of the additional costs of raising a puppy into maturity and since it is simpler to ascertain overall quality within an adult dog. Last, the most costly German Shepherds are those adults that have proven themselves as show dogs, K9, or breeding dogs. There is very little risk involved in purchasing a recognized German Shepherd and these dogs will be priced accordingly.

How Much Does A Purebred German Shepherd Cost

It is also worth noting that the closer this dog is to being a purebred, the more expensive it gets.

Overall, the price of a Purebred German Shepherd puppy can be somewhere in the range of $1,500 to $5,000. Like what was explained earlier, the price depends on what the breeder has already spent as an investment on the dog.

The price of a Purebred German Shepherd can also be as high as $6,000 to $10,000 or more. This could also be reliant to the achievements of its parents and lineage.

Surprised that the rates of this breed can go that high? Good Purebreds can also be priced at less than $1,000 or as low as being FREE. German Shepherds that are in animal shelters and have been rescued or in need of a good home are generally priced less than those raised by breeders.

Why Are German Shepherd Puppies So Expensive

The main reason German Shepherd puppies cost so much is that the cost of breeding German Shepherds and raising the puppies is not cheap.Below is a chart breaking down the approximate costs associated with breeding.

Expense

1. Based on estimates from Cost to Breed and Raise a Litter and Litter Costs.

When you add this to the cost of feeding and maintaining the dam for one year, a single litter is often setting breeders back by $8,000 or so. Add to this the intangible expense of the breeders time and expertise in whelping, raising and training the litter.

Interested In Training Your German Shepherd The Right Way

If you havent trained your German Shepherd properly, then this is the perfect time to start. Whatever bad behavior your shepherd has, whether its barking at night or other bad behaviors, using the right training program is the key to having an obedient and happy pup.

The training program I love and highly recommend is Brain Training For Dogs.

With Brain Training For Dogs youll save yourself a ton of time and effort. Instead of banging your head against the wall trying to figure out why your dog wont listen, youll follow a path that has been tried, tested, and most importantly, thats given proven results. Not to mention the fact, youll be able to fit the course around your schedule, not fit your schedule around a trainer or obedience class.

So instead of worrying about whether theyre going to be well-behaved or not, youll only have to worry about how much fun youll have with them!

And in most cases its still going to be:

  • Cheaper than hiring a professional.
  • Cheaper than replacing everything they might break.
  • And definitely cheaper than a lawsuit against you, if they decide to bite someone.

Just imagine how great it will feel to finally be able to trust your German Shepherd completely and never worry whether theyll be naughty or not. Instead, youll have the peace of mind that you have a well-behaved pup, and the boundaries you set for them, will always be there, EVEN IF YOURE NOT.;

What About The Chart On Dog Food Bags

German Shepard puppy. Too much cuteness!!! Reminds me of ...

Youve likely seen the feeding chart on the back of commercial dog food bags. These charts can seem pretty straightforward at first glance.

However, they dont take into consideration the size, weight, activity level, or overall health of each individual dog.

For that reason, its best not to treat these dog food packaging feeding guides as gospel. Instead, use them as a starting point.

Observe your dog, see how he looks and feels, and note any changes in his bathroom habits, weight, or energy level. Adjust his meals accordingly.

The other problem with these packaging guides is that they arent clear on how to feed your dog. Generally speaking, they talk about daily intake, not per meal.

For example, if the guide says you should feed your dog 3 cups, its not suggesting that your dog eats 3 cups at every meal. It means to split that 3 cups total over the entire day.

If your dog eats 3 times per day, that would be 1 cup at each meal for a total daily intake of 3 cups.

To further confuse dog parents, some manufacturers do list per-meal serving sizes, not the total daily intake! In these cases, if you read it incorrectly, you would end up underfeeding your dog.

To help mitigate some of this confusion, it may be helpful to ask your vet how many calories your dog should be consuming each day. Then you can check the calorie content in the dog food and measure things from there.

Getting A Healthy Dog

If youre buying a German Shepherd puppy then youre probably going to have them in your life for the next decade. During this time you will build a strong attachment to them as they will end up being a big part of your life.

You will therefore want to look to find a puppy that is as healthy as possible. By finding a puppy that is as healthy as possible youre going to be able to spend more time with your new best friend but likely save yourself a large amount of money in vet bills.

When buying the puppy, try not to get lost in the puppys eyes straight away, give them a critical look. Do they appear to be healthy? Are they skinny? How about the rest of the litter, or the parents? You wont always be able to meet the father but you should be concerned if youre not going to be able to meet the mother

It is also worth asking the breeder about any genetic tests that have been done on the puppy or the mother. Not all will do the test but some do and if they have the information it is worth you getting it and understanding it.

Unfortunately, German Shepherd dogs are known for their health issues. While you may try and find a puppy that is as healthy as possible, they may still experience anything from a minor allergy to serious health issues.

German Shepherd Sheds A Lot Of Hair

German Shepherds Eat TOO MUCH!

Shedding fur is something that you get with pretty much all breeds of dog. This is done to accommodate the changes in temperature and bringing in fresh hair. German Shepherd is often termed as German Shedders owing to the amount they shed, which given the amount of fur they have is, understandably, a lot.

You might know that the dog has a double coat of fur so it will automatically mean more shedding of hair. One option to try and keep the cleaning manageable is to limit your German Shepherd to only being able to go into certain areas of your house where you can clean up the hair easily.

One tip that we have seen dog owners use to keep the hair in their home under control is to use robot vacuum cleaners. You will still need to do a regular normal vacuum but this helps to keep it under control day to day.

If The Breeder Is Only Willing To Work On A Specific Day Then You Will Have To Rearrange Your Schedule To Accommodate Their Schedule

What it’s Like Owning a German Shepherd

You and the breeder must be on the same page as far as when the puppy will be ready. Most German Shepherd breeders like to keep their puppies indoors most of the time. This keeps them safe and comfortable. An indoor puppy is also a lot easier to housebreak than an outdoor one.

Because they dont have to fight for attention as much as other dogs. When you buy a German Shepherd puppy for sale, ask the breeder if they have indoor/ outdoor puppies. This way you can see how the pups react together and decide if they are right for each other.

When you buy German Shepherd puppies for sale from a reputable breeder, you will have some form of health insurance. Ask the breeder if this is included in the price of the puppy. If it is, then it is definitely a good idea. Also, you should inquire about crate training, because most dogs will destroy a house if they are not trained to behave. This makes the dog less likely to be destructive.
