What Should I Do After Being Bitten By A Dog

When;a dog bites an individual,;several steps;can be taken to both help with long-term health and build a strong case for the most compensation possible:

  • Seek Immediate Medical Attention.; First and foremost, addressing immediate medical needs is imperative.; Because dog bites can lead to serious complications, it can be vital to visit with a physician.; Even bites that seem harmless can lead to infections or other internal injuries if left untreated.
  • Document Everything Possible.; If you intend to file a compensation claim, it is critical to begin compiling as much evidence as possible from the start.; Generally, the more substantial the documentation, the easier it will be to assess the amount of money deserved.

At a minimum, victims should strive to collect the following documentation:

  • Dog owner contact information
  • Witness contact information and a summary of their account;of the accident
  • Medical bills
  • Wage statements
  • Dog bite reports
  • Contact a Knowledgeable;Dog Bite;Attorney.; Dog bite laws vary from state to state, and speaking with an attorney who has experience representing clients in Massachusetts dog bite claims may help increase your chances of securing a favorable determination.

How To Protect Yourself From Dog Bites

Dog behavior is often predicted by the dog owner or the experiences that the dog has lived through. Many dogs have been abused or neglected in some way. These are the types of dogs that bite or attack.;

We cant stop stressing the importance of always exercising caution around dogs you dont know.;

If a dog seems threatening, avoid eye contact, and remain calm. Dont encourage dogs to attack. Dogs that are startled, sick, or injured are more likely to attack. Instead of approaching them or moving them, its better to contact someone who can provide the proper care.;

Luckily, our local governments often have restrictions in place to keep residents safe.;

Some city laws have prohibited, or restricted ownership of certain breeds, particularly pit bulls or other dogs bred for weapons. Plus, certain codes such as 17 California Code of Regulations 2606 requires doctors to report dog bites. So, if any dog bites you, make sure you see a doctorthat way, the incident is documented and properly reported.;

While certain statistics may indicate that one breed is more dangerous than another, the truth is that it really just depends. When it comes to an unfamiliar dog, how can you know if theyve been abused or are untrained?

The bottom line is that any dog has the potential to attack and cause serious injuries.;

So, if youve been bitten by a dog and have serious injuries, make sure to get the proper medical treatment as soon as possible.;

States Prohibit Organized Dog Fighting

In all 50 US states, organized dogfighting is considered a felony, and even being a spectator at a dogfight is illegal.

Dogfighting is a violent and very lucrative underground market. It is a sad life for a dog. Dogs are raised isolated and chained. Their ears are often cropped, and tails cut off. If you suspect that someone is illegally raising dogs for dog fighting purposes, its important to report this type of activity.;

The reality is that even though dogfighting is illegal in most countries around the world, there is still a dogfighting culture that thrives. Animal cruelty is exactly what leads to aggressive dogs and even human fatalities.;

How Many People Get Bit Every Year

It’s hard to get an exact figure on yearly dog bites. Many instances go unreported. This is especially true in countries with poor animal control services.

The most recent survey pulled data from several decades of reports. It stated that between 4.5 and 4.7 million people in the United States alone get bitten by a dog every year.

However, that figure only reflects reported instances in the U.S. Many countries lack a robust reporting system.

According to the World Health Organization, dog bites are responsible for tens of millions of injuries a year around the globe!

    List Of Fatal Dog Attacks In The United States

    Fatal dog attacks in the United States cause the deaths of about 30 to 50 people in the US each year, and the number of deaths from dog attacks appears to be increasing. Around 4.5 million Americans are bitten by dogs every year, resulting in the hospitalization of 6,000 to 13,000 people each year in the United States . A 2018 literature review with meta-analysis by breed, focusing on dog bite injuries to the face, head and neck, concluded that “of the cases in which the breed was known, the Pit-bull was responsible for the highest percentage of reported bites across all the studies followed by mixed breed and then German Shepherds,” and that “injuries from Pitbull’s and mixed breed dogs were both more frequent and more severe.”

    Injuries, illnesses, and fatalities resulting from encounters with dogs are a major public health concern worldwide. Dogs not only cause morbidity and mortality as a result of bites, but they may also transmit zoonotic infections, which may also result in illness or death. Dogs are the main source of rabies transmission to humans worldwide. It is estimated that 3% to 18% of dog bite wounds become infected, with occasional cases of meningitis, endocarditis, and leading to death reported. Children have the greatest risk of death.

    Why Some German Shepherd Attacks Happen

    Can I train my German Shepherd to protect me?

    German Shepherds are often used as guard dogs for businesses, junkyards, car lots, and warehouses. The problem with having dogs that are trained to defend property against strangers is that the owner has to be careful not to let these dogs come into contact with other strangers that he does not intend for them to attack.; If there is a gate left open or a hole in the fence, these dogs may get out and attack people that are not really a threat to the property the dog believes it is protecting. Furthermore, if the property entrances are not properly secured and/or marked with warnings, unsuspecting meter readers, postal workers, salesmen, and other visitors may become victims of German Shepherd attacks by mistake.

    After reading YOUR statistics WHY do you say a pit bull is so dangerous? Are you looking at your own statistics? After much research your 2019 statistics are also flawed, you say 33 of the 48fatalities from dog attacks is the pit bull, wrong again! Is this really fair to put out incorrect statistics? It certainly lessens the value of your articles!

    Google the ATTS hoax. It does not test dogs to find the least aggressive dogs and it even states that comparing the scores of one breed against another is not a good idea. That is because they score dogs against their breed standards NOT other breeds.

  • History Of The German Shepherd

    The German Shepherd dog breed was born from efforts to create the perfectworking dog.

    In the 1850s, dogs of all different types were being bred in Germany toherd sheep and protect flocks from predatory animals. Breeders across thecountry were trying to promote the best shepherding traits in these dogsand succeeded in creating new breeds of effective working dogs.Eventually, efforts were launched to control the breeding process.

    This is when former cavalry captain and veterinary student Max vonStephanitz set out to develop the perfect herding dog breed. At an 1899dog show, Von Stephanitz came across a dog which had the traits that hewas looking for and bought it.

    Von Stephanitz called his new dog Horand von Grafrath. He declared Horandthe first of a new breed named the German Shepherd Dog , and founded a group called the Society for the GermanShepherd Dog.

    Horand was then used in a comprehensive breeding program aimed at refiningthe German Shepherd. He was bred with desirable dogs owned by fellowmembers of the Society for the German Shepherd Dog to forge a breed whichmatched Max von Stephanitzs vision.

    Von Stephanitz and the society continued with their breeding mission for35 years, through several generations of puppies. All German Shepherdstoday share a genetic link with the fourth generation of German Shepherds Horands great grandchildren and Max von Stephanitz is credited as thecreator of the breed.
