Hi everyone,I’ve begun my search for a GSD and cannot for the life of me find breeders in the UK with old fashioned straight backed pups.I found a zombie thread on here but unfortunately it didn’t help a great deal. Does anyone know of any reputable breeders anywhere in the UK with all health checks/scoring etc?They’re such beautiful dogs but I’m so wary of breeders, hip problems and the like it’s proving difficult! We’re in no hurry whatsoever until we find a good breeder so happy with wait lists etc. Any help, advice, fb groups would be a god send! Thanks all

Breeding Under The Term Old German Shepherd Dog
In parallel to the SV, intensive breeding of the so-called Old German Shepherd Dogs developed, for which a separate standard was set up, which apart from the fur length showed hardly any differences from the German Shepherd Dogs.Old German herding dogs, such as the Harzer Fuchs or the Gelbbacke have also been grouped under the new breed name Old German Shepherd Dog. However, this standard was not recognized by the SV and the international FCI. The turning point did not come until 2010, when the Association for German Shepherd Dogs, with the approval of the FCI, re-approved the long-stick hair as a variant. Since then, the long-haired German Shepherd has been bred again within the SV under the standard of the GSD. Despite the new entry, some breeders outside the SV still stick to the term of the old German shepherd dog breed today.

The Old German Shepherd has never been bred to look a certain way, and so there is no true breed standard in existence. A medium to large sized athletically-built breed, dogs will measure between 26 and 32 inches, while weighing anything between 22 and 40kg. Their coat colour can be black, brown, tan or grey, and often consists of more than one colour. The length and type of the coat varies between individuals, though tends to be long.
The German Shepherd has a double coat, which is comprised of a thick undercoat and a dense, slightly wavy, or straight outer coat. Its hair, usually tan and black, or red and black in color, is medium in length and is shed all year round. Other rarer color variations include all-Black, all-White, liver, and blue.

Emily and Eliot take time daily with each dog to visit, sometimes on the favorite stump in the ‘big yard’ which is an acre and a half safe and secure play place. Cancer genes can be detected, common eye issues, common blood issues, drug sensitivities, neurological issues, etc, etc, etc ….All these possibilities are good to know of ahead of time if they’re in that bloodline or not, so I just don’t understand why breeders would NOT take advantage of these tools! I want to know what those family health genes hold, so I use these tools of health screening!… I am always looking for more research and more answers. As we all should be!
If we’re careful now, and use the modern tools we have today such as the DNA health screens, and if we don’t dismiss information simply because it’s not ‘popular’YET, we could take big steps to clearing some of the issues that are in our pets…., So just because something isn’t popular or common YET, doesn’t mean it isn’t valuable information!
We can do so much more and have safer plans for the future of our dogs no matter what the breed may be if we just open our minds and use the tools that are available.
Hopefully someday we can eradicate the issues that have plagued every single breed for such a long time.

The Link below shows my co- owned females they live with their families 95 % of the time and only come to my house occasionally for mommy duties and often stay with their families for puppies as well. I do not believe in haveing large numbers of dogs you simply can not give them the time they need. I do this full time and having more then 10 dogs here , even full time I barely have enough time for them all.. I belive this is the best way to expand and still do what is BEST for the dogs… I choose these females below because they are what I am looking for to improve the breed. because they are with someone else does not mean they are any less of a dog in my eye’s.
