The media luridly described how a woman was viciously mauled to death by two of these big dogs in the hallway of her apartment building. As a result, the owner of these dogs is now serving a sentence of 15 years to life in prison. Although the Presa Canario remains a rare breed in North America, it now seems to appear on every prohibited dog breed list issued by insurance companies.

Do Dog Breed Restrictions Work
Most studies agree that breed specific legislation is not actually very effective at increasing public safety against dog bites or attacks. Here are several problems associated with breed restrictions and legislation:
- While specific breeds were bred for specific reasons , there is still something to be said for nurture over nature.

Unfortunately,it seems that these laws seem to do little to improve the safety of the public,not to mention the safety of the dogs. Instead, they create a false sense ofsecurity.
Identifying The Most Dangerous Dog Breeds
In the American Temperament Test Societys temperament test, the ten breeds listed below had some of the lowest passing rates overall. The breeds are listed in order from lowest to highest percentage of individual dogs that passed the test.
During the test, dogs with the lowest passing percentages often displayed extreme shyness, aggression, and panic.
