After Purchasing a Puppy, you can choose to have your dog trained here or you can Purchase a Trained Puppy, one already finished with Obedience from the Beginning Training Programs. We also offer training for German Shepherd puppies from other areas.

The training skills we teach are the basic fundamentals every puppy should know. Each program is custom tailored to suit each dog and familys needs. All commands are taught in German unless otherwise specified. All dog training is conducted here at our location in Rochester, Washington served by PDX airport in Portland Oregon and SEA Seattle Washington State.

Grothaus puppies are priced at $1800. Individual litters are priced based upon the titles and accomplishments of the parents and the costs incurred to do the breeding. For pricing on a specific litter, please see the individual litter listing, or contact us.

A non-refundable deposit of $300 is required to reserve a puppy from a litter and will only be accepted from individuals who have already completed our interview and screening process. Fill out our PUPPY QUESTIONNAIRE

Once you have filled out a questionnaire and are approved for a Grothaus puppy, you may either put a deposit down, or be placed on our waiting list. A deposit is to hold the next puppy of the specific type you are looking for . The waiting list is just a list that I can refer to once the puppies are born to call and announce what we have available. If you are on the waiting list and we produced the puppy you are looking for, you can then put a deposit down to hold that puppy until it is ready to go home. Please note, we do keep an active waiting list before each breeding takes place. The best way to ensure your next puppy is from Grothaus, is to place a deposit early.

Grothaus Kennels claims Right of First Refusal on all pups we breed, for the lifetime of the dog. This means that if for any reason a buyer is unable or unwilling to keep their dog, we must be contacted before any action is taken and given the opportunity to take back the dog.

A Little About The Owners Of Coldwater German Shepherds

Dr. Robert Oglesby and Janette Oglesby have been involved with German Shepherd Dogs, puppy care, and training for many years. In her previous life Janette was a veterinary practice manager, veterinary technician, and kennel manager. During the past 15 years she has been evaluating, working, training, titling, and breeding these fabulous dogs. She is a member of DVG and is involved with several working dog clubs and groups.

Robert, now retired, has been in veterinary practice for over 32 years and maintains the successful website www.horseadvice.com. He is responsible for the veterinary care of the dogs. Europe and other countries have long implemented a Breed Survey to establish health and temperament guidelines, but weve found that even the highest Breed Survey ratings dont necessarily translate well in an everyday environment.

At CVC, weve developed a system of our own for evaluation that we feel both enhances the European standards and exceeds it. Rather than having a choreographed field exercise, we implement real world scenarios. Anything from crowds, variable and extreme noise, startle testing, stairwells and open stairs , dark hallways, and traffic, we test with our dogs to ensure that they are ready for any environment. A Little About The German Shepherds

Our male and females are often purchased titled or started prospects from Europe after a thorough evaluation. We also use quality outside males for genetic and color diversity. More recently we are breeding, raising, training, then titling our own dogs. Helping us with training and titling is Frans Slaman of Zen Dog Training. Many Colors Of The German Shepherd Puppy For Sale

Show dogs emphasize bold colors preferably of the well-known black and tan saddle markings. West German show dogs are often red or mahogany in place of tan. In working lines, you will see darker colors, especially in the DDS dogs. Other colors in a German shepherd for sale are solid black, white, sable, bicolor, blue, liver, and Panda. Panda dogs look like tricolor German Shepherds, a result of a rare KIT gene that causes piebald or a specific expression of white spotting. A sable German shepherd is one with different bands of color on one hair shaft. In the GSD, sable usually shows up as black and tan in a nondescript pattern that does not show a distinct saddle. Some sables look like they have more of a wolf coloration. Blue represents a black German shepherd with a dilution gene that gives the coat a grayish color. Blue and liver GSDs as well as other dilutions receive severe penalty points in the show ring. Nevertheless, blue and liver show up in place of the dark areas in the sable German Shepherd as well as black and tan and bicolor. A white German shepherd can register in the AKC as a purebred but cannot show in conformation classes. Separate registries have established a community for the White German Shepherd whereby owners can show against their peers just like comparable conformation contests in the AKC. A bicolor dog is a black German shepherd with minimal tan markings.
