Dog Saves Day As Real

German shepherd Tinsley led New Hampshire police to owner and passenger after truck crashed off highway in freezing conditions

New Hampshire police officers were engaged in a low-speed dog-chase on a highway along the states border with Vermont when they discovered that a real-life Lassie was leading them to rescue two men thrown from a truck and suffering from hypothermia.

The driver, Cam Laundry, 31, and his passenger, Justin Connors, 40, were found injured but alive on Monday thanks to Tinsley, Laundrys canine companion. Another dog, Connors bulldog, was hit by a car and found dead on the side of the road after the accident.

Captain Tim Cohen of the Lebanon police department said Laundrys truck appeared to have fallen from the embankment into the woods in such a way that it would not normally have been seen by a passing motorist.

Its pretty incredible that we were able to help these men, not even knowing that they were there to begin with. It was a good stroke of luck, Cohen said. The dog definitely played a large part in this because it drew our attention to that area.

The two friends were heading back home from dinner before the car accident. Laundry was not wearing a seatbelt and was charged with driving under the influence. He called the incident a wake-up call.

It was onlookers from the road that first alerted police to the loose German shepherd on a bridge.

wouldnt really get near anybody, Cohen said.

Does Your New Hampshire German Shepherd Breeder Have A Good Veterinarian They Use

Your breeder should have a veterinarian they use and trust. This veterinarian should be familiar with the breed and the breeders breeding program.

The veterinarian should also do health screenings on the dogs in the kennel and provide routine care for them. If you have any questions or concerns about your dogs health, you should be able to talk to the breeders vet about them.

What To Expect From A German Shepherd Puppy

Sid

Although you have your expectations, its best to take note of the following. It will help you prepare for your pet, especially in the first few days of living together.

As you allow your pet to adjust, do your best to create a stress-free environment for it. Always supervise it as it familiarizes itself with its new home.

At the same time, prepare yourself for your pets habits in the first weeks:

Noisy Sleeping

Snoring is not that common in German Shepherds. Still, it would be best to prepare yourself for loud noises when your pet is asleep.

Moderate Training

German Shepherds are highly trainable. It simply means they respond well, especially to positive reinforcement. For this reason, you may need to allot an hour or so each day for your dogs training.

Squeaky Toys

Out of all toys, your pet will love the squeaky ones. For this reason, prepare for a lot of loud squeaks every time your pet is active.

Potty Training Your New German Shepherd Puppy

One of the first things you should do when bringing your new German Shepherd puppy home is to teach it where to go potty.

  • Always take your puppy outside immediately after waking up, eating, drinking water, playing, and resting.
  • Once outside, give your pup about 5-10 minutes to go potty.
  • If they dont go within that time frame, bring them back inside and try again in a few minutes.
  • Take them outside every 30 minutes or so until they start going potty on their own after only a couple of minutes out there. This will let them know what they are supposed to do while they are still young enough to be easily trained.

New Hampshire Dog Rescued After Falling Into Full Septic Tank

The Dogs That Changed Our WorldThis Special Shepherd newsletter edition comes straight from the heart, written by staff members to tell the story of the 36 dogs that changed our whole world.

The German Shepherds case will be remembered as one of the most emotionally and financially draining cruelty cases in our 148 year history. After nearly two years in protective custody, we are finally able to tell their complete story and share the profound impact they had on all of us.

As animal lovers, we want to believe that everyone treats animals kindly. When we are faced with the reality that thats not the case, we are shocked and saddened. Animals are abused or neglected in many ways and it makes us angry to know that an animal has been made to suffer at the hands of a human. We see abuse and neglect disturbingly often. Last year alone, our cruelty investigator received over 800 complaints of cruelty or neglect.

The owner of the dogs has since been charged and convicted of animal cruelty, but continues to appeal, leaving the animals in our protective custody. The appeals and postponements have left us holding the 36 Shepherds in limbo for nearly a year.

Our community has been truly supportive during this time, and we are so grateful said Ms. Dennison. But now that we are facing additional months of care, we are more stretched and frustrated than ever.

Latest Updates For Sofia

28 German shepherds in need of new homes after being released from ...

The gorgeous Sophia is now in our kennels at Southampton and we are looking for a foster home for her local to Southampton/Portsmouth.She has a nasty open sore on her leg and although kennels are managing it well, a home environment would be best to allow it to heal as she is having to wear a collar to stop her licking it She is on antibiotics and due to have a biopsy on it next weekend.Sophia is incredibly friendly and adores fuss and cuddles. She is quiet petite and does need some tlc as she was found as a stray. She doesnt really know how to walk on a lead properly but she isnt too strong so even if someone has a nice size garden for her to potter about it this would be adequate for a few weeks. It would need to be completely secure as she was found as a stray. She doesnt know her name or know any basic commands. She is ok with other dogs but we would like her to be the only dog so she can have 100% of the attention while she is getting better and we dont know how she would be with cats or children as we have no history. She is a little anxious in the kennel so we can only assume she has some separation anxiety so to start with she needs someone who will be around most of the time.We need a home local to Southampton/Portsmouth as she is under the care of vets in Milbrook so will need someone to take her to appointments. This little girl really is a sweetheart , if you can help please let us know by filling in a form…

Pet German Shepherd Leads Police To Serious Vehicle Crash To Help Rescue Injured Owner

Good dog.

A German Shepherd named Tinsley helped to rescue its owner and another man following a serious vehicle crash in New Hampshire, U.S.

According to a Facebook post by the New Hampshire State Police on Jan. 4 , a state trooper responded to a report of a dog “loose” on a highway, Interstate 89, at the border with the neighbouring state of Vermont.

State troopers are law enforcement officers in the U.S. with statewide authority and are also responsible for enforcing traffic laws on state highways and interstate expressways.

The trooper and police officers from the nearby town of Lebanon found a “large German Shepherd” on the road. When they tried to get close, the dog ran up the highway, crossing over into Vermont.

According to local news outlet WCAX3, who quoted the Lebanon Chief of Police Phillip Roberts, “All units that were up there on the scene tried to corral the dog, get him in a cruiser. There were passersby that tried to lure him with some treats. But he really wouldnt get within 8 or 10 feet of anybody.”

If you want to find a responsible German Shepherd breeder, here are some tips:

1. Contact the national breed club and ask for breeder recommendations in your area. Good breeders belong to at least one or more of these organizations:

2. Visit the recommended breeders websites and learn about their breeding programs. A reputable breeder produces puppies with excellent health and temperament they also take care when matching puppies with new owners. A good breeder will provide you with written documentation that the parents were cleared of hereditary diseases by a veterinary professional.

3. Check online reviews and ratings of German Shepherd breeders in New Hampshire and speak to current and past pet owners before making a decision about which breeder to work with.

4. Ask for a tour of the kennel and make sure all of the parent dogs appear to be clean, healthy, well-behaved and friendly.

5. Make sure you feel comfortable with your breeder and ask as many questions as possible before deciding to buy a puppy from them. A good breeder should want to provide you with all of the information you need and should be available to answer any questions in the future.

BEDFORD, N.H.

The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire is asking for community help to provide surgery for seven German shepherd dogs facing what it calls significant health challenges.

The litter of dogs was given to the agency in September from a dog breeder who was experiencing health issues, and could not properly care for the dogs, which were identified as having leg issues.

After visiting veterinary specialists in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, the rescue league said the dogs have all been diagnosed with a life-altering orthopedic disease that could mean they will never walk normally again.

The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire said it’s at a point where financial help from the community is needed to provide the care that the dogs need. “Orthopedic issues of this severity require surgery to give these dogs the very best chance at living a pain-free life,” the agency said.

It is asking anyone interested in donating money to visit rescueleague.org. Donations can be made by clicking on the donate button and specifying that your donation is for “Shepherds Medical Needs.”
