GSRNE works very hard to match the right dog with our adopters, so that youll be happy and our dogs will have a forever home.
We place dogs in the six New England states .
- The adoption fee for our dogs is: $350 for dogs ranging in age from puppies to age seven.
- $200 for seniors, age eight and older.
The fees help us meet expenses incurred by our nonprofit organization, although our average expense per rescue dog is approximately $2,000 each. These include the following if they have not already been given to the dog before coming into GSRNEs program:

German Shepherds are very gentle dogs and are much known for their protective traits. Unfortunately, last 2018, there was a new adoption fee.
Adopting a German Shepherd in Massachusetts would now cost around 300 dollars to 350 dollars. The cost would cover the German Shepherd shelters medical expenses to keep them vaccinated and healthy.
These German Shepherds are provided with consistent medical care. Ever since the German Shepherd gets rescued, they will closely be monitored and have the privilege of being spayed and neutered. Care also includes all kinds of shots for dogs.

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you’ll have a friend for life.
What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?
When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.
So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

Do You Need To Rehome Your Dog If so, please read.
We are currently inundated with requests to rehome dogs. In many cases these dogs are relatively young and due to inadequate training, boundaries and guidance are reactive towards dogs and people. In some instances, they come with a bite history. It is virtually impossible for us to rehome these dogs. A lot of applicants arent prepared to or arent experienced enough to take on a dog with these issues. Often if they have the experience, visiting grandchildren for example, may make taking on a dog with these issues very difficult. As a result, these dogs are ending up in kennels with little chance of finding a home willing to give them a chance.
If you take on a dog at any age, it is a commitment for the duration of their life. If the dog displays behaviours that you are not happy with, it is your responsibility as a dog owner to put in the required work. Lets be honest, this is often due to us not putting in the required work and expecting our dogs to behave perfectly and make good choices without us ever showing them how.This may be done by reaching out to a qualified behaviourist or trainer and even if you get professional help, you will still need to put in the work in terms of putting what you have learned into practice, and by repetition.
Do the right thing by your dog and get help. They would do anything for you, so I think they deserve the same.

The Seven Border Collie Puppies
This litter of pups came to us when a friend of the puppies’ owner saw what poor conditions they were being raised in and contacted us to see if there was anything that we could do to help. The puppies were confined to a closet in a small apartment in the city. They were covered in their own feces and each one of them was suffering from infections of their eyes and infested with ear mites. We convinced the friend to suggest to the owner that he surrender them to us so that we could get them cleaned up and address their eyes and ears.
At first the owner was reluctant but his friend persisted and it paid off. He agreed to turn the puppies over to us. The only condition was the puppies owner would meet us at his friend’s house because he didn’t want us to know where he lived. We agreed to this condition for the sake of the puppies and they were turned over to us.
They were about five weeks old when they arrived here at the farm after each one of them were bathed and fed we started to treat them with antibiotics and ear drops. In record time the eye infections and ear mites were cleared up. They started to thrive and went from lethargic timid puppies to playful loving creatures.

Please Note That Rescue Is Harder Than Ever At Present
Due to so many dogs and puppies being purchased during lockdown without proper consideration about the long term welfare of these dogs, rescues are now being inundated with unwanted dogs that have missed out on proper socialisation and training in the early months of their lives. The result is that the dogs coming in to rescue require much more time to rehabilitate which means the dogs coming in are staying with us longer than normal and our kennels are full to bursting. This is further compounded by the fact that many people applying to adopt seem to expect the perfect dog rather than accepting a rescue dog will have baggage and will need time and support to unpack it. There is only so much we can do in a kennel environment and unfortunately there is also a shortage of foster homes willing to take on difficult dogs to assess in a home environment and continue their rehabilitation.
If you looking to rehome your dog, we will endeavour to assess your dog as soon as possible and put on our website, HOWEVER, we cannot take any more dogs into our care at present unless there are exceptional circumstances. Our priority will always be strays in council kennels that have nowhere else to go if a kennel space becomes available.

German Shepherd Rescue And Rehoming
German Shepherd Rescue Elite has been formed with the aim of rescuing, re-homing German Shepherd Dogs and educating people on the breed. GSRE is backed up by a team of unpaid volunteers who strive to aid and promote responsible ownership of the breed.
GSREs aim is to be the prevention and not always the cure, through offering education on the lovely breed and how to look after these amazingly intelligent and energetic dogs. We not only look to re-home dogs but keep them in their original homes by offering training and behaviour advice. Through our volunteers and website we want to inform people on all aspects of dog ownership before you decide to take the plunge especially as German Shepherd Dogs are a large working breed and are not suitable for everyone.
More recently GSRE have also been helping the Belgian Shepherd Malinois and Dutch Shepherds , who have started finding themselves in rescue, and as the other main working breed used by the police and armed forces, we feel we are better placed than many rescues to understand their needs.
GSRE is a registered charity that works alongside many other reputable rescues which means that through team work and pulling together we can help even more dogs in need. To assist in this we are now a Full Member of the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes who promote best practice in animal welfare, and a member of the EU Dog and Cat Alliance who call for EU action to build a better Europe for dogs and cats.

Requirements For Adopting From Gsrne
GSRNE only places rescue dogs in homes where any children are age 7 or older.
GSRNE places dogs in homes with a fenced yard.

Experience is the best teacher and has taught us that the safest environment for a Rescue German Shepherd includes a fenced yard or area. Generally speaking, most rescued dogs need more limitations because they need time to get to know the new owners and bond. We feel VERY STRONGLY that dogs allowed to wander unsupervised are dogs that are at a greater risk of getting lost, stolen, poisoned or struck by a car. Dogs that run loose are also at risk of exposure to rabid animals, potentially bringing this fatal disease home to the family. GSRNE requires some kind of fenced area attached to your house at the back or side door. This is to ensure the safety of the dog. Your fenced area doesnt have to be elaborate or expensive. It does NOT have to encompass your entire yard.
Type of Fence: A satisfactory fence may be built of stockade, chain link, heavy wooden posts with heavy gauge wire, or metal posts with heavy gage wire, preferably with a rigid metal bar along the top. Equal attention should be given to the security of the fence along its bottom in order to prevent dogs from digging out.
Note: Dogs cannot be fostered or adopted until your fence has been inspected and all necessary repairs competed.

If you are trying to adopt a rescued German Shepherd from German Shepherd shelters, you might be confused about what you should consider.
If you ask people to like your friends and family, they might have different opinions that confuse you. But there is not so much to consider.
The fact that you chose to adopt a rescued German Shepherd rather than buying one is already one act of kindness. You might already know that there are so many rescued German Shepherds in the world and only a few German Shepherd shelters.
If you adopt one, you are already saving a dogs life. However, if you want a good rescue, you should consider the German Shepherds temperament.
If the German Shepherd comes at you with no hesitations and no aggressiveness, you would know that it was a good rescue. If the German Shepherd is warm and inviting on your first encounter, it is already a good rescue because there are no signs of trauma or aggression.
How Do I Pick A Good Rescue German Shepherd
You might ask yourself what kind of German Shepherd you should adopt and rehome. You can look for outgoing dogs. You can tell that by observing their body language when you first meet.
If the dogs gesture is warm and inviting, you might want to choose that because they are confident and trusting. However, if you are also not down to unlimited patience, you can avoid a shy German Shepherd.
These dogs can be a little bit of work because they are afraid and run away from you. If you are outgoing and are a very hands-on person, you might not enjoy your German Shepherd because of its shyness.
However, this is only a guide, and if the dogs personality is not a big deal for you, you can pick any dog you want. Dogs can be trained and can also be flexible like some people are. If you love a challenge, you can pick any dog you want.
