Is The German Shepherdthe Right Dog For You

If you are looking for a dog that is energetic, smart, very trainable, protective and mellow then the German Shepherd could be the dog for you. If you are looking for a dog that loves to play, is a great running companion and will be loyal to you for life, then the German Shepherd may be the dog for you.

If you dont want to exercise the dog daily, find it stimulating things to do, and dont like shedding then the German Shepherd may not be for you.

In May 1999, the United Kennel Club recognized the White German Shepherd Dog as a separate breed known as the White Shepherd. The White Shepherd is a breed that has developed in the past 40 years by breeders dedicated to preserving the traditional German Shepherd Dog structure and the striking white color that was disqualified by the German Shepherd Dog Club of America in 1968. The white color has always occurred naturally in the German Shepherd Dog but because the white color blends with the sheep and that they would stand out to criminals when used for protection, it was determined the German Shepherd Dog should be a darker color. Although White German Shepherds can be registered with the AKC as German Shepherd Dogs and shown in AKC performance, obedience, tracking and agility trials they cannot be shown in conformation.

The information listed below are the published standards however German Shepherd Dogs come in many sizes and colors not listed as standard.

How Much Does It Cost To Adopt A German Shepherd In Wisconsin

Pets for Adoption at Mit Liebe German Shepherd Dog Rescue, in Suamico ...

German Shepherds are very gentle dogs and are much known for their protective traits. Unfortunately, last 2018, there was a new adoption fee.

Adopting a German Shepherd in Wisconsin would now cost around 300 dollars to 350 dollars. The cost would cover the German Shepherd shelters medical expenses to keep them vaccinated and healthy.

These German Shepherds are provided with consistent medical care. Ever since the German Shepherd gets rescued, they will closely be monitored and have the privilege of being spayed and neutered. Care also includes all kinds of shots for dogs.

Arf German Shepherd Rescue Lodi

Theres nothing more human than spending time and effort to save dogs scheduled for euthanasia. ARF GSD Rescue knows this the best.

This rescue center saves, fosters, and rehomes all Pistols in need out there.

But, who are Pistols?

It all began in 1999 when the founder of ARF bought a neglected GSD puppy named Pistol. Thanks to their love and nurturing, Pistol recovered and stayed with the founders family. Thats when it hit them all: there are other Pistols out there that need help.

Thus, the eternal goal of ARF was created. So many poor dogs like Pistol needed help, and founding ARF German Shepherd Rescue Lodi came at the right time. So far, the organization has made so many pups lives a whole lot better. And, theyre not planning to stop here.

If, by any chance, you cant take care of your GSD, you can surrender it to ARF. They wont judge, and will be happy to take care of your puppy.

If things are different, then you might even offer a helping hand and adopt some of ARFs German Shepherds. You will do more than a good deed youll make a pups life much happier.

White Paws German Shepherd Rescue

Since its inception, White Paws German Shepherd Rescue has rescued and rehabilitated more than 4,000 dogs. As a non-profit organization, White Paws German Shepherd Rescue relies on fundraisers, donations, and volunteers to rescue and rehabilitate abandoned German Shepherds, regardless of their health condition or age.

After rescuing abandoned German Shepherds, White Paws German Shepherd Rescue transfers the dogs to their facility and foster homes. White Paws German Shepherd Rescue ensures that a vet checks the dogs and treats any conditions or diseases. They are also vaccinated and spayed or neutered before adoption.

This rehabilitation may be done at White Paws German Shepherd Rescue or while the dogs are in foster homes. White Paws German Shepherd Rescue reimburses fosters expenses incurred in vet visits and food for the dogs. If you want to be a foster with White Paws German Shepherd, you must complete an online application.

Youll be evaluated, and a home visit is arranged to ensure you can adequately support the rescued dogs. If youre living on a rented property, youll also need to show proof of authorization to keep German Shepherds from your landlord.

If you want to adopt a German Shepherd, youll also have to complete an online application. If approved, youll have to demonstrate the ability to take care of the German Shepherd and provide references and authorization to keep a German Shepherd from your landlord if you live on a rented property.

Fetch Foster And Rescue

Unlike other rescue centers on this list, Fetch Foster and Rescue has no dog kennels or facilities where they can put their dogs. They rely completely on foster homes and volunteers that will provide a temporary home for their GSDs in need.

But, not only are GSDs a part of their focus group. Other dogs, no matter if theyre three-month-olds or even seniors, can be saved and fetched, as the team likes to say.

If you live in the area and want to adopt or help out, I urge you to check out the Fetch Foster and Rescue organization. A rescue organization doesnt have to have a kennel or a building to be reliable. Trust me these guys know what theyre doing theyre only lacking funds.

In case you dont realize it, fostering and rescuing dogs in general is an expensive hobby. Taking care of a dogs health requirements upon rescue may even cost up to $500! Thats a lot of cash for a nonprofit organization hence, why contributions and donations are so valuable and welcome.

Even if you cant help too much or adopt a pup, you can still buy some dog toys or leashes for walkies since they go through them fast. Any help is good help, and those little paws will be eternally grateful.

White Paws Germanshepherd Rescue Mission

Our mission is to help ensure the welfare of all German Shepherd Dogs by rehabilitating and placing unwanted and abandoned German Shepherd Dogs from shelters and similar situations into new homes and providing education and guidance to new owners.

Since 2004, weve saved approximately 150-175 dogs a year from being put to sleep in shelters, most stray or abandoned by owners. We take in dogs found in dumping grounds, owner surrenders, shelters and many other bad circumstances from 22 states in the Continental U.S. We rescue young, old, and medically needy dogs.

White Paws German Shepherd Rescue is a licensed non-profit 501c3 organization founded by a small group of people dedicated to the German Shepherd Dog breed. All monies collected are put toward helping the dogs to find a better life.

We conduct home visits, coordinate training, transport dogs to and from the veterinary office, conduct fund-raisers and bring dogs to select locations so they can meet the public, and the public can meet them to see what a wonderful companion they truly are. We are working to educate the public about the German Shepherd Dog breed and also the importance of spaying/neutering to help keep the pet population under control.

Why Should You Adopt

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you’ll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

What We Aim To Solve

We take in many special needs and medical needs dogs, as well as hospice senior dogs. These are very expensive to maintain as we do not put a dog down for any reason other than humane euthanization when their quality of life is very diminished i.e. pain, etc. In order to continue pulling senior and special needs and elderly dogs from shelters, we need more funding. All dogs are placed in foster homes. We do not board dogs in kennels.

Humane Societies & Animal Shelters

Dont forget to check your local humane societies and animal shelters. They get shepherds at their facilities, too. Remember, being turned over to a shelter is part of how I got my Forever Home. I got lucky not all of them from the shelters get to go to rescues. Some shelters keep lists of people who are looking for a certain kind of dog and when they get a dog in that matches, they will call the people on the list.

Mom says there are way to many shelters and humane societies in Wisconsin for us to put a whole list of them here. But she says you can find them by going to a place called and put in words like humane society along with the city name and you will find lots of them that way and that another place to look for your special dog is called Petfinder.
