German Shepherd Puppies For Rescue

German Shepherd Rescue And Rehoming

Free German Shepherd Puppies available for adoption male and female good lineage gsd puppy

German Shepherd Rescue Elite has been formed with the aim of rescuing, re-homing German Shepherd Dogs and educating people on the breed. GSRE is backed up by a team of unpaid volunteers who strive to aid and promote responsible ownership of the breed.

GSREs aim is to be the prevention and not always the cure, through offering education on the lovely breed and how to look after these amazingly intelligent and energetic dogs. We not only look to re-home dogs but keep them in their original homes by offering training and behaviour advice. Through our volunteers and website we want to inform people on all aspects of dog ownership before you decide to take the plunge especially as German Shepherd Dogs are a large working breed and are not suitable for everyone.

More recently GSRE have also been helping the Belgian Shepherd Malinois and Dutch Shepherds , who have started finding themselves in rescue, and as the other main working breed used by the police and armed forces, we feel we are better placed than many rescues to understand their needs.

GSRE is a registered charity that works alongside many other reputable rescues which means that through team work and pulling together we can help even more dogs in need. To assist in this we are now a Full Member of the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes who promote best practice in animal welfare, and a member of the EU Dog and Cat Alliance who call for EU action to build a better Europe for dogs and cats.

About German Shepherd Rescue New South Wales

German Shepherd Rescue New South Wales is a volunteer rescue organisation based in New South Wales and provides homes for abandoned, surrendered and rescue dogs from animal shelters throughout NSW.

Due to the current state border lockdowns we are unable to send our dogs interstate. So there are no interstate adoptions available.

Our rescue dogs are provided with all required veterinary work and are placed into foster homes to ensure they are rehabilitated and trained to be re-homed into appropriate and loving homes.

All dogs listed are ready to go to their new home now. We are unable to hold a dog for you while you fix fences or go on holiday, etc.

If you would like to make a contribution towards our rescue dogs you can do a direct bank deposit to German Shepherd Rescue New South Wales – NAB BSB 082 691 Account Number 135357074.

Our email address is:

We have an Adoptions Manager who screens all prospective candidates as to their suitability to adopt a German Shepherd Dog.

We try to contact every one by phone but if that isn’t successful we will email our application form to you, which needs to be completed and returned, or you can call us back and we can chat and complete for you. We will also ask you to provide photos of your yard and fencing to enable us to see where the dog will be kept and that they have areas of shade and shelter.

Please Note That Rescue Is Harder Than Ever At Present

Due to so many dogs and puppies being purchased during lockdown without proper consideration about the long term welfare of these dogs, rescues are now being inundated with unwanted dogs that have missed out on proper socialisation and training in the early months of their lives. The result is that the dogs coming in to rescue require much more time to rehabilitate which means the dogs coming in are staying with us longer than normal and our kennels are full to bursting. This is further compounded by the fact that many people applying to adopt seem to expect the perfect dog rather than accepting a rescue dog will have baggage and will need time and support to unpack it. There is only so much we can do in a kennel environment and unfortunately there is also a shortage of foster homes willing to take on difficult dogs to assess in a home environment and continue their rehabilitation.

If you looking to rehome your dog, we will endeavour to assess your dog as soon as possible and put on our website, HOWEVER, we cannot take any more dogs into our care at present unless there are exceptional circumstances. Our priority will always be strays in council kennels that have nowhere else to go if a kennel space becomes available.

Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.

Heartworm Prevention For Dogs

male GSD puppy 1

Heartworm prevention for dogs is an important concern for every pet owner. Prevention is an important part of providing essential care, and heartworm disease prevention for dogs is something every owner can do. Consider this:

Some preventives only prevent heartworms, some protect pets from heartworms and intestinal parasites, and some protect pets from many different parasites, including heartworms, intestinal worms, fleas, ticks, and mites. Because veterinarians know which parasites are common in the area in which they practice, owners should talk to their pets doctor about what product or products will be best for their pets.

Buying A German Shepherd Puppy

We believe that every dog should be judged according to deed, not breed, and that German shepherd dogs, when raised correctly, can make loyal and loving pets.

If you’re looking to buy a German shepherd puppy or any other type of puppy, you need to know what you’re getting into – so before buying a German shepherd puppy, make sure you do your homework. Pedigree and purebred German shepherd puppies can suffer from inherited diseases, and breeders aren’t always as concerned about a puppy’s health and welfare as they should be.

Use the Puppy Contract if you’re buying a German shepherd puppy or any other breed.

Welcome To Garden State German Shepherd Rescue

28 German Shepherds In Protective Custody For 2 Years Are Going Up For Adoption

Garden State German Shepherd Rescue is a foster based rescue relying solely on volunteers opening their homes and their hearts to these unwanted German Shepherd Dogs . Most of our dogs come from other rescues, pounds or shelters and were facing euthanasia due to overcrowding.

Once a GSD enters our program, they receive all necessary medical attention, ranging from updating vaccinations to intensive surgical care, if necessary, and everything in between. We always do what is best for the dog in our care and get them healthy before adopting them out to their new home.

We also provide an owner referral service where GSGSR works with the current owner to provide a new, loving home for their GSD.

Where Are German Shepherd Dogs From

Perhaps never in the history of any breed has such concerted effort been put into improving a dog, mostly due to the formation in 1899 of the Verein fur Deutsche Scharferhunde SV, an organization in Germany devoted to overseeing the breeding of the German Shepherd.

Breeders sought to develop not only a herding dog but also one that could excel at jobs requiring courage, athleticism, and intelligence.

During World War I, they were the obvious choice for a war sentry. At the same time, the AKC changed the breeds name from German Sheepdog to Shepherd Dog, and Britain changed it to Alsatian Wolfdog, both attempts to dissociate the dog from its unpopular German roots.

The Wolfdog was later dropped as it caused many people to fear the dogs. In 1931, the AKC restored the breeds name to German Shepherd Dog.

Welcome To Greater Houston German Shepherd Dog Rescue

Greater Houston German Shepherd Dog Rescue is a 5013 non-profit organization. We are a breed-specific group dedicated to the rescue of German Shepherd Dogs and do not knowingly accept mixed-breed dogs into our program. Our GSDs are obtained from public shelters where they are scheduled to be euthanized or they are given to us directly by their owners. All dogs receive the necessary health care, including spaying/neutering and are micro-chipped and then are placed in a foster home until they are adopted. Our dogs are guaranteed a place in our organization throughout their life. We provide information and education to the community with emphasis on the importance of spaying/neutering and heart-worm prevention, and we work with transporters, animal shelters and other rescue organizations to develop a better life for all GSDs.

GHGSDR is guided by three core values: dedication, integrity and compassion.

Do You Need To Rehome Your Dog If so, please read.

We are currently inundated with requests to rehome dogs. In many cases these dogs are relatively young and due to inadequate training, boundaries and guidance are reactive towards dogs and people. In some instances, they come with a bite history. It is virtually impossible for us to rehome these dogs. A lot of applicants arent prepared to or arent experienced enough to take on a dog with these issues. Often if they have the experience, visiting grandchildren for example, may make taking on a dog with these issues very difficult. As a result, these dogs are ending up in kennels with little chance of finding a home willing to give them a chance.

If you take on a dog at any age, it is a commitment for the duration of their life. If the dog displays behaviours that you are not happy with, it is your responsibility as a dog owner to put in the required work. Lets be honest, this is often due to us not putting in the required work and expecting our dogs to behave perfectly and make good choices without us ever showing them how. This may be done by reaching out to a qualified behaviourist or trainer and even if you get professional help, you will still need to put in the work in terms of putting what you have learned into practice, and by repetition.

Do the right thing by your dog and get help. They would do anything for you, so I think they deserve the same.
