Austin German Shepherd Dog Rescue Texas

Austin German Shepherd Dog Rescue was first established in 1998, with a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome German Shepherd Dogs from across the State of Texas.

The group supports rescue German Shepherds who may otherwise be neglected or overlooked, as well as GSDs who are highly in-demand.

Their adoption procedure goes as follows:

  • Fill out an adoption application. You must have a letter from your landlord or HOA whether you are renting/leasing or own a condo or townhome.
  • An AGSDR volunteer will contact your veterinarian and personal references. Please authorize the vet to share details with AGSDR.
  • AGSDR volunteers will contact you to arrange a home visit.
  • If approved to adopt, you will be connected with the foster for your preferred German Shepherd.
  • Adoption contracts and a $300 minimum adoption fee are expected. The minimum adoption fee for puppies is $350.

After you first bring your dog home, there will be an adjustment period which can range from a few days to weeks or months. Hence be prepared not to take it personally if it takes a while.

It would be best to do some research into some helpful ways so your new GSD will adjust to your home sooner.

German Shepherd Rescue Of Orange County California

German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming purebred German Shepherd Dogs that have nowhere else to turn. They prioritize potential adoptees who have no children or other animals at home.

Through a careful screening process, loving dogs are placed into forever homes with compassionate individuals and families.

It begins with an application, which tells about an individuals lifestyle, experience level with pets, and personal preference so GSROC can recommend a pet match.

Prospective adopters must be at least 23 years old or older to adopt through the organization. A home visit is required before any dog is placed, but with the current COVID health situation, a virtual home visit using video call will do just fine.

Due to limited resources and volunteers, GSROC can only place dogs in the greater Southern California area, Arizona, and Las Vegas, NV.

You can also visit their websites Resources page for more information about other shepherd rescue organizations.

When Finding Free Or Low

Dont try to find inexpensive pups on Florida Craigslist or other Florida-free listing websites. They are typical of poor quality and can originate from un-reputable breeders.

Dont attempt to cut a deal with a Florida German Shepherd dog breeder.

If you pay less than their typical cost, the German Shepherd puppy might be the runt of the litter or have significant health issues.

Dont purchase the least expensive puppy you can find.

They are generally unhealthy and live in dreadful conditions in puppy mills. The research study gets recommendations and examines any location you consider acquiring a German Shepherd puppy. Look online for reviews and to find out if the organization is reputable.

Remember All the organizations listed below are for research purposes only. We arent affiliated with any of these, have not been to these facilities, and dont know any of these people personally. You MUST do your homework and ask the right questions.

Remember Do Not Ever send payment in advance travel to these organizations directly after doing the proper research, asking the critical questions, and making an appointment to see the German Shepherd puppy or dog in person.

Do You Really Have To Give Up Your German Shepherd Dog

People Problem: I Cant Afford My Dog Anymore

In todays economy, this has become a common reason that people need to give up their pets. But GSDs do not need to be an added expense if you can learn to balance their expenses. Not all of your GSDs necessities need to be purchased at the same time and sometimes not even in the same month.

Bottom line, your GSD really needs a collar and leash, rabies vaccination and food. If you can manage these items until your financial situation improves, then there is no need to give up your GSD.

Food. If your situation is such that you cannot afford dog food, vist MSPCA Angell page Massachusetts Pet Food Pantries for a list of pantries in Mass. If you live in another New England State, google Pet Food Pantries for your state.

Medical. If your GSD has issues that require medical attention, organizations exist nationally and locally that may be able to help financially. Here are a few links that list these organizations:

The Humane Society of the United States posts a comprehensive list of pet financial aid-related organizations. You can search by state. Visit their page Are You Having Trouble Affording Your Pet?.

Please keep in mind that each organization is independent and has their own set of rules and guidelines. Therefore you will have to investigate each one separately to determine if you qualify for assistance.

Meet Hank! ADOPTION PENDING

Hey, good lookin, whatcha got cookin? says Hank. This lovable 4 year GSD came to the shelter rail thin, missing a lot of meals, with most of the fur on his back, rear legs and tail missing. He was likely used for breeding in his past life. Since his retirement from breeding, Hanks fur has grown back and he gets three meals a day in his foster home. Hes bought a Hawaiian shirt and is ready for some adventures in his next chapter.

Fun fact: The name Hank has a German origin, and loosely translates protector of the home. Good fit for a German shepherd, right? Though his name means protector, Hank is a love bug and even gave the vet kisses! Like some retirees, hes content as a homebody, trying new recipes, napping on his dog bed. Hank has an outdoorsy side too he plays ball and goes on long walks a few times a day to squirrel watch.

Hank has lived with another dog, so hed do well with a dog his own size and energy level or as an only dog. We are not sure about cats. Since Hank will fill out at 85 lbs. and is still learning manners, an adults only home is a best fit.

Want a walking buddy to help out in the kitchen?

Where Are German Shepherd Dogs From

Perhaps never in the history of any breed has such concerted effort been put into improving a dog, mostly due to the formation in 1899 of the Verein fur Deutsche Scharferhunde SV, an organization in Germany devoted to overseeing the breeding of the German Shepherd.

Breeders sought to develop not only a herding dog but also one that could excel at jobs requiring courage, athleticism, and intelligence.

During World War I, they were the obvious choice for a war sentry. At the same time, the AKC changed the breeds name from German Sheepdog to Shepherd Dog, and Britain changed it to Alsatian Wolfdog, both attempts to dissociate the dog from its unpopular German roots.

The Wolfdog was later dropped as it caused many people to fear the dogs. In 1931, the AKC restored the breeds name to German Shepherd Dog.

Welcome To Greater Houston German Shepherd Dog Rescue

Greater Houston German Shepherd Dog Rescue is a 5013 non-profit organization. We are a breed-specific group dedicated to the rescue of German Shepherd Dogs and do not knowingly accept mixed-breed dogs into our program. Our GSDs are obtained from public shelters where they are scheduled to be euthanized or they are given to us directly by their owners. All dogs receive the necessary health care, including spaying/neutering and are micro-chipped and then are placed in a foster home until they are adopted. Our dogs are guaranteed a place in our organization throughout their life. We provide information and education to the community with emphasis on the importance of spaying/neutering and heart-worm prevention, and we work with transporters, animal shelters and other rescue organizations to develop a better life for all GSDs.

GHGSDR is guided by three core values: dedication, integrity and compassion.

  • What You Should Beware Of When Listing A Pet For Adoption

The Internet has made many aspects of life much easier. However, it can also be dangerous. While it may be a simple matter to list your dog on classified sites online, there is no way to determine just who will respond and whether they will be a good and loving owner for your dog. Instead of choosing to use dangerous classified sites online, you should always look for trusted online methods, such as Rehome by Adopt-a-Pet.com.
