Many Colors Of The German Shepherd Puppy For Sale

Show dogs emphasize bold colors preferably of the well-known black and tan saddle markings. West German show dogs are often red or mahogany in place of tan. In working lines, you will see darker colors, especially in the DDS dogs. Other colors in a German shepherd for sale are solid black, white, sable, bicolor, blue, liver, and Panda. Panda dogs look like tricolor German Shepherds, a result of a rare KIT gene that causes piebald or a specific expression of white spotting. A sable German shepherd is one with different bands of color on one hair shaft. In the GSD, sable usually shows up as black and tan in a nondescript pattern that does not show a distinct saddle. Some sables look like they have more of a wolf coloration. Blue represents a black German shepherd with a dilution gene that gives the coat a grayish color. Blue and liver GSDs as well as other dilutions receive severe penalty points in the show ring. Nevertheless, blue and liver show up in place of the dark areas in the sable German Shepherd as well as black and tan and bicolor. A white German shepherd can register in the AKC as a purebred but cannot show in conformation classes. Separate registries have established a community for the White German Shepherd whereby owners can show against their peers just like comparable conformation contests in the AKC. A bicolor dog is a black German shepherd with minimal tan markings.

German Shepherd Puppies Temperament

German Shepherds are one of the most popular breeds of dogs, and its easy to see why. These pups are intelligent, playful, and loyal companions. But German Shepherds are also working dogs, and they have a reputation for being serious and even aloof. They are natural guardians, and they will protect their families from any perceived threat. German Shepherds are also exceptionally trainable, and they excel in a variety of disciplines including obedience, agility, and tracking.

Despite their many talents, German Shepherds are not the right breed for everyone. They require consistent training and socialization, and they need plenty of exercise to stay happy and healthy. If youre looking for a low-maintenance pet, a German Shepherd is probably not the right choice for you. But if youre prepared to commit to training and exercise, youll find that a German Shepherd can be a loyal and loving friend for life.

How Much Exercise Do German Shepherds Need

In General your German Shepherd will be healthiest when getting an average of 1-2 hours of exercise each day. Having a big backyard and park nearby is very helpful for owning a big energetic dog like this. Throwing the ball or running with your German Shepherd daily will keep them fit mentally and physically. Like most bug dogs, physical exercise is essential to avoid temperament issues and poor health conditions. By combining this daily exercise with the right amount and type of healthy dog food, you can help your pup live long and avoid unnecessary medical issues.

Are German Shepherds Good With Kids

As mentioned, German Shepherds are highly intelligent and self aware dogs that can be protective when necessary. This makes them great family dogs as they often view children in the home as under their protection. They are gentle with little ones and love a good cuddle. German Shepherds also have great restraint and patience. You may have seen videos of babies climbing on these big loving dogs, without so much as a flinch from the Shepherd. While we recommend always preventing potential accidents, you can typically rest assured that German Shepherds are one of the safest family dogs you can choose.

Description Of The German Shepherd

I rated my viewers dogs and gave the best one $1000

Regardless of whether it comes from show or working lines, the GSD is 22 to 26 inches tall at the shoulders and weighs between 50 and 95 pounds. There should be noticeable masculinity of males and femininity of females. German shepherd puppies for sale should be outgoing, friendly, and inquisitive. As he becomes older, you will notice your German shepherd will be polite but aloof with strangers and openly hostile against intruders and threats. Show lines, including pet dogs, are generally less intense and do not require as much exercise as working GSDs. The breed standard is similar between the lines, the major difference being on the interpretation of joint angles. American show dogs, for example, have an extreme angulation of the hind legs leading to an exaggerated slope of the topline. A German shepherd is a medium-large powerful dog with tremendous stamina. She has a distinctive head with a slight dome shape to the top skull and large open upright ears. Eyes are medium, almond-shaped, and steady in their gaze. The breed is significantly longer than tall, a build that supports trotting effortlessly over long distances with short explosions of speed. A German shepherds athleticism has ensured its longstanding excellence and versatility in police and military operations, search and rescue, bomb detection, drug-sniffing, criminal apprehension, agility competitions, Schutzhund, herding trials, physical assistance, and guide dog for the blind.

Genetic Health Problems Of The German Shepherd Puppy

German shepherd puppies Males and females $1000 each rehoming fee Miami ...

Health problems can manifest early in the life of a German shepherd puppy or appear later in her life. A couple of the most common growth abnormalities are hip and elbow dysplasia. Dysplasia causes joint incongruences that lead to pain and eventual arthritis. Panosteitis is generalized bone inflammation fairly common in German shepherd puppies that causes severe pain and may have a link to overnutrition in fast-growing breeds. The GSD breed can also suffer from diabetes, bloat, hemophilia, von Willebrands disease, epilepsy, and degenerative myelopathy. Large deep-chested breeds are vulnerable to gas distension of the stomach with life-threatening complications such as gastric torsion. Hemophilia and von Willebrands both involve abnormalities in the clotting pathways or factors of blood. Epilepsy is often a genetic problem, and the affected dog will have seizures with no known source. Finally, DM is a progressive neurologic disease. Dogs begin with a weak gait and eventually suffer paralysis. When you are trying to choose from German Shepherd puppies for sale, the AKC recommends you check that the parents have had hip and elbow evaluations. Such thorough analyses may be impossible if you acquire your dog through a German Shepherd rescue.

Factors Affecting The Cost Of A German Shepherd Puppy

Purebred German Shepherds are one of the most expensive breeds out there, and you may be wondering why. Ive mentioned earlier that pedigree and coat color affects their price, but they arent the only factors that come into play.

Breeders are not only responsible for producing GSD puppies, but they also need to ensure that these pups are healthy and in their best condition before their new owners take them home.

And of course, these medical expenses are not cheap, not to mention purchasing food and other basic needs.

Check out this comprehensive list of factors that affect the cost of a German Shepherd puppy:

Other minor factors can also impact the German Shepherd puppy price. These include the breeders location and the cost of shipping or transport.

Knowing these factors can also help you choose a trustworthy breeder who can offer you a puppy worth its price.

Initial Cost Of German Shepherd Ownership

Now that you know all about the German Shepherd price, you can think of the other necessary purchases that come after buying or adopting them.

We all know that the initial costs dont come cheap, so Ive also included a breakdown of these purchases.

In general, its a good idea to be prepared for these initial expenses before bringing your GSD puppy home:

The table below summarizes all the things you need to purchase initially, along with their price range.

You can use this as a puppy checklist when youre shopping for your German Shepherd puppy:

Type of Expense
Total Initial Cost $650 $2,445

The estimated initial cost of owning a German Shepherd puppy is around $650 to $2,445,exclusive of the German Shepherd puppy cost.

If this is not your first dog, you can recycle your old dogs items to cut down on the expenses. Other money-saving tips will be discussed in a separate section, so keep on reading!

Why You Should Notbuy From Household Breeders

Malinois & Dutch Shepherd Puppy Progression

Another question iget asked a lot whenever the price of a GSD puppy comes up is someone that hasfound a puppy on craigslist for $500.Why shouldn’t I just buy one of those?Puppies sold at this price come from home breeders, people who dont normallybreed GSD’s but thought it was a good way to make some extra money. The problem with these puppies is that they have not been bred to the samestandard as from a reputable breeder. The parents have not had health checks, have not been cleared of commonbone problems , do not receive an optimal diet throughpregnancy and while suckling the puppies and they do not have an expert eyelooking for problems as they develop. All of these factors can contribute to apuppy that is more likely to show genetic or health defects later in life. The cost of surgeries and unexpected trips to the veterinarian can add up veryquickly. If by choosing a reputable breeder you avoid just one or 2 healthconditions prevalent in poorly bred German Shepherds then in the long run youwill save a lot of money. As we stated earlier the upfront cost of a GSG islittle compared to the cost of owning and raising one for 10+ years. Pay theextra upfront and it will likely save you thousands down the line.
