Great Pups Start Out With The Right Breeder

Czech/East German working line German Shepherd

Yes we love the breed and we strive to bring the German Shepherd back to the origin they were founded! Straight backed, Big boned, and Sound minds! Breeding Quality Straight Backed German Shepherds from DDR Working Lines & Czech lines mixed with quality Show lines to take and even out the back line and balance out the drive/energyEAST GERMAN SHEPHERD LINESDeutsche Demokratische RepublikThe East German line & Czech line German Shepherd Dogs developed a little differently than German Shepherds from other locations. They have heavier bone structure, big block heads, uniform shoulders and an even top line “STRAIGHT BACKED” like the original German Shepherd Dog was. Mixing of the lines is determined upon the strength of visible traits and “genetically” of each parent and their lines. So it takes a great measure of thought when I choose what parents to breed with. I have to consider each dog as an individual to see what traits would best compliment what I am trying to produce. I consider temperament, color, size and drive, whether they are from a working line or show line. But for the most part German Shepherds are very versatile breed of dog no matter what line they are from !BEAUTY & BRAINS Solid Blacks, Black & Tans, Black & Reds and occasional Sables!German Shepherd Dogs For Protection, Personal, or Pet .Adoption ProcessPrice:Go Home Date:Health:Health Guarantee: THE RIGHT PUPPY!!WE I encourage you to go your own temperament testing as well!

Starting With Good Genetics

Parents from European working lines

We start with well bred dogs from respected breeders and test for health and temperament. Our breeding dogs will have hip and elbow OFA certifications and genetic testing for DM. They may also have CERF certifications and spine xrays done depending on age.

Our dogs are not purchased solely for breeding, and live rich lives training in multiple sports such as obedience, protection sport and agility. They live in my home as companions and serve as assistants for my behaviour program.

Only dogs who have the work ethic to excel at sport, the personality to be house pets, and the structure and health to be athletes are accepted into the breeding program.

Temperament: Are Czech German Shepherds Good Family Dogs

GSDs take to training like a duck takes to water. They were built for this. But you will need to show the appropriate leadership without reducing to negative or even physical punishment.

Like all dogs, they do well with positive reinforcement. Clicker training is especially effective with these dogs.

Schutzhund is a method that can be quite foreign to North American concepts. It enhances the dogs protection abilities and was first developed for German Shepherds.

There are three steps to this training program which are tracking, obedience, and protection. Its important to find a suitable mentor to guide you and your dog in this practice.

Be patient, consistent, and stay calm during training sessions. These intuitive dogs know how their owners are feeling and from a dogs point of view, emotional people dont make great leaders.

Your dog will sense your anxiety and disobey. Respect has to be mutual for it to go a long way.

Training and socialization go hand in hand. Help your dog get accustomed to all sorts of sounds, smells, people, and animals that they will come across over the course of their lives.

Dont forget the daily appliances that you use in your home. Some dogs freak out over vacuum cleaners and hair dryers because they werent properly introduced.

While it might be cute as puppies, youll find yourself having to deal with inconveniences when your dog is grown and large enough to knock you over.

What Health Problems Do Czech German Shepherds Have

AKC Czech breed DDR working line German Shepherd

A healthy Czech has a lifespan of 10 to 12 years, the same as any German Shepherd from other lines.

They dont come with a whole lot of health issues, and the only concerns are eye problems, ear infections, bloating, and hip dysplasia.

Since they dont have the extreme angulation of show dog lines, they are clear from skeletal and spinal problems.

To learn more about what problems affect this breed, you can read our guide to German Shepherd health here.

Dutch German Shepherd Vs Czech German Shepherd

A Dutch German Shepherd is an independent dog that looks more like a wolf. These dogs have longer coats than the Czech GSDs and have brindle coats.

Used as guard dogs for farms and cattle carts, these dogs are dependable workers that dont require as much human interaction, best for those often away from home.

Is A Ddr/czech Or West German Working Line Dog Right For You

The joy of owning a working line bred German Shepherd is immeasurable but a companion and workmate that gives itself over to you so completely requires a significant reciprocal commitment. If youre considering a Vom Banach K9, a DDR/Czech or West German working dog, or any other working line breed, we ask that you consider these questions as part of your deliberation.

  • Do you have a fenced yard?
  • Are you able to devote at least 30 minutes per day to exercising your dog?
  • Will your puppy be raised inside of your home as a part of your family?
  • Do you have small children, infants or other animals in your home currently and if not do you plan to in the future?
  • Do you plan to crate train your puppy in addition to housebreaking?
  • Are you prepared to feed a high quality food to your dog such as a grain-free or holistic food as a regular diet throughout its lifetime?
  • Do you know the difference between the temperaments and character of a Working Line German Shepherd Dog over a show line or an American bred German Shepherd?
  • Have you already consulted with a private trainer or know of obedience classes that are offered in your area that may be more specific to working dogs over an average Pet Store style all breed pet training class?
  • Do you understand the commitment required to adequately socialize your puppy so that he/she will grow up to be a well mannered well trained dog?
  • Do you plan to spay or neuter your puppy when he or she is old enough?

What Coat Type Do Czech Shepherds Have

Czech GSDs have strong agouti bloodlines. This makes them either sable or black in color, as opposed to the classic saddle patterns that we commonly see on film or in America.

Working lines, in particular, can have more color variation than conformation dogs and can come in blue or even white.

Aside from that, they can also come in long hair or short hair. Working lines generally value the shorter but denser coats because they can better protect them from the elements. You can read all about it here.

How Much Do Czech German Shepherds Cost

Every dogs price is influenced by a number of factors, including the breeders reputation, the dogs lineage, conformation, coloring, and temperament. Prices also increase after health screenings, medical expenses, and training.

Given all these factors, its no surprise that Czech German Shepherds are much more expensive than the average show line GSD. Non-working line German Shepherds purchased from breeders can cost $800 on average, with many puppies costing up to $1,900 each. Breeders of Czech GSDs fetch significantly higher prices for their dogs.

For example, puppies from Floridas K-9 Specialists typically cost between $3,000 and $3,500. Adults that have received specialized training can cost as much as $24,500.

Those Who Breed And Do Not Train Are Like The Blind Trying To Describe Colour

    -Captain Max von Stephanitz-

“The coloring of the dog has no significance whatever for service our shepherd dog accordingly is not bred for color. Coloring, therefore, is only a fad of the amateur and as such is often liable to changes of whim.”

    -Captain Max von Stephanitz-

“Breeding should never be made with animals that are not in work. The proof of the education of the dog for work is a necessity for admission for breeding, rather than Show honors, which afford a very misleading idea of a dogs value for breeding.”

Czech German Shepherd Vs Other German Shepherd Types

Wondering how the Czech GSD dogs compare next to other German Shepherd variations? Being a rather new breed, they can be quite rare.

Aside from that, dogs from these German Shepherd lines have strong nerves and even stronger work ethics. Youll be hard-pressed to find another dog as determined and fearless as these dogs with Czech bloodlines.

What Type Of Work Do Czech German Shepherds Excel At

German Shepherd Obedience Training: Czech Import Cheyenne z Pohranic

Given that this working line was developed by the Czechoslovakian military to protect its borders, its no surprise that these dogs are most useful in assisting military and law enforcement.

Czech German Shepherds are excellent at sniffing, tracking, and herdingall the roles GSDs generally excel in. However, this working type is best suited for even more demanding work.

Along with their stronger and leaner bodies, the focus and intense drive that was selectively bred into the Czech GSD make them incredibly effective dogs for patrolling and assisting in criminal apprehension.

Their incredible protective instincts also make them useful in guarding spaces from intruders, stopping people from escaping, and protecting their handlers from any physical harm.

Are They Just Rebranded East German Shepherds

There are certainly a lot of similarities between these two breeds of dogs, but they are just that: two different breeds of dogs. There are a number of differences between them, some of the most apparent being:

    • Czech shepherds are generally a bit lighter in color than their East German counterparts.
    • Czech shepherds are usually a bit heavier, theyre a bit bigger, and theyre more muscular.
    • Czech shepherds originated closer to the German/Czech border, whereas the East shepherd actually originated in East Germany and Russia.

Aside from that, the dogs are quite similar. They have similar temperaments, they look pretty similar, and they are just as loyal and intelligent and fierce.

If youre thinking about getting a dog to help protect you and your family, or simply to be a companionable pet, a Czech German Shepherd is a great choice.

    Exercising Your Czech German Shepherd

Imagine breeding for law enforcement, using stock from animal herding that worked hard all day. Youll have an extremely active dog on your hands.

Regardless of which types of German Shepherds you have, they need at least 1 to 2 hours of exercise a day, starting from 2 years of age.

Aside from exercise, you need to spend time with him working on his agility and obedience. Remember, these dogs love to work.

Keeping him locked up is not only cruel, but it can also cause him to become destructive, hyperactive, and loud!

Having nothing to do might cause them to develop separation anxiety because they are too bored without you around.
